The first Last Word cartoon is out in the world! A long time in the works, The Last Word is a single panel cartoon that looks at words in common usage and uses things like visual puns, alliteration, anthropomorphism and non sequitur to present little stories. Pen and ink drawings with very little preparation, The Last Word is a sketchbook of sorts, a chance to share some art with the world.

The cartoons are produced digitally to eliminate drying time and minimize post-production scanning or photographing. The words are chosen from a list I’ve put together using common english databases, managed in Airtable. I’ve written custom ExtendScript tools for Photoshop for quickly formatting the images and exporting them to the desired formats for posting online when complete (reducing the start and completion of a cartoon to two button presses. Timelapse footage which accompanies each cartoon is captured using my standalone timelapse software Decimator, and compiled upon completion with ffmpeg.
